Chai Wala

I had a chai latte on Sunday morning and have been thinking about it ever since.  When I left Los Angeles Sunday afternoon, Kim gave me chai spices, black tea and a recipe for making chai at home.

Chai Latte


2 cups of milk (2% works well)

1 cup of water

1 teaspoons of chai spice mix (this is a powder of black pepper, ginger, cardamom, taj, clove, and cinnamon – the brand Kim gave me is Kapol Tea Masala)

2 tea bags (black tea)


Heat the milk and water (slow boil, not rolling).  Add tea bags and chai spice mix.  Steep the tea bags for 3-5 minutes.  Pour into mugs.  Sprinkle with cinnamon.  Serve hot.
