Worst Parade Ever

10 Oct

The day of the Chicago Marathon is one of my favorite days of the year here.  Thousands of runners (nearly 40,000); thousands more cheering the runners on.  It’s exciting and inspiring and connected (connected meaning everyone is out there for the collective purpose of helping the runners get through it).  This photo is a nice summary.[Photo credit: El, from her South Loop condo window.]

The elite runners are the highlight.  They run first (before most spectators are even out to watch) and in a cluster, and run the entire thing in under 2h:10m (the course record of 2h:05m:37s was set today by Moses Mosop from Kenya!).  They look like gazelles.  It’s truly unbelievable.  Beautiful to see.  On another note, apparently the Chicago Marathon is also known as the Worst Parade Ever.  What is this sign? – it’s so funny.

Daniel told me that a lady gave birth after running/walking the entire thing!

Yes! We saw her (we didn’t see her giving birth but we saw her running). Crazy!

2 hours and 10 minutes is how long it’s going to take me to run the 1/2 marathon!

It would take me 2 days and 10 minutes to do that. 😀 You’ll fly on by!
